Thunder Bay firefighters escorted families from a Hercules plane that evacuated them from their Sandy Lake First Nation community to Thunder Bay on Tuesday. More than 90 people who were threatened by forest fires and smoke were evacuated.
Battling heavy smoke and extreme fire activity, Ministry of Natural Resources firefighters drew battle lines in the sand Tuesday near the remote Keewaywin First Nation and Musselwhite Mine property.
“Today is expected to be the most challenging day yet this fire season,” said fire information officer Owen Vaughan.
