Express U18 Girls squad rolls into Vaughan

The Lakehead Express soccer club will be travelling to Vaughan this weekend to take another shot at the Ontario indoor cup.
This time around the under-18 girls squad will attempt to capture the provincial crown at the soccer centre in southern Ontario.
An opening game in round-robin competition against the North Mississauga Panthers is followed by games versus the Erin Mills Fighting Eagles and London Norwest Wildcats.
The top two teams from the group stages will advance to Sunday’s semifinals.
League watch: In local men’s A league action, the match of the week saw the Chill alumni and Frankie’s Pizzeria play to a 7-7 tie! Kyle Kawahara scored four times for Frankie’s and Zetroy Robertson grabbed a hat trick for the alumni.
Haider Hatoum, Lucas Palomino and Joseph Quadrilatero were all on target as Lakehead University edged Rainbow Realty Raiders 3-2. TBayTel defeated the Chill Reserves 3-1 with strikes from Victor Fuentes, Vince Minella and Mike Sabaz.
B flight play saw Anthony Laudone and Ehgae Moo each score twice as Confederation College got by MU 4-1.
Kurt Begall hit the trick as Mustard Tigers blanked United FC 4-0 and Patrick Boileau netted a pair for Spiders in a 3-3 tie with Donisi Calcio.
Los Galacticos got the better of the Lakehead Express 5-4 with two goals each from Michael Vita and Luca Ferriolo, while Giovanni Petraglia also bagged a pair in Alloy Tech’s 4-3 victory over Stella FC.
Ron Badanai was on target four times as Old Boys defeated Blizzard 7-2 in Retro league play and the night’s other matchup saw Steve DeRocco grab a hat trick as United downed Spartans 8-1.
On the women’s side, Megan Clarke scored twice as the Express shut out Confederation College 3-0 and Ali Wood scored the only goal of the game as the Chill got by LU 1-0.
Brittany Mackenzie netted twice as Grand Portage DE blanked C & D 4-0 and Alyssa Mittleman had the game winner as Spartans got by Mr. Lube 1-0.
The Chill Selects beat Daniar’s Transmission Gold 2-0 thanks to efforts from Malary Cole and Hannah Melchiorre, while the Titans played the Ice to a goalless tie.
Anna-Maria Pedulla hit a hat trick as Wildcats blanked Jackals 5-0 and Miranda Thibeault scored twice as Fanti drew 2-2 with Tigers.
Jenna Jewell and Jennifer Vanderway gave Fusion a 2-0 win over Red Thunder and Susanne Walford scored both goals as Team X beat Plex VFC 2-0.
Medichair Nova took the points with a 3-0 victory over TNT with goals from Missy Bouchard, Sasha Atkinson and Tara Wyspanski.
International scene: The transfer deadline came and went with two big names joining new clubs.
David Beckham will be playing in France for PSG and donating his salary to charity, while Mario Balotelli left Manchester City to join AC Milan, then scoring twice on his debut in a 2-1 victory over Udinese.
International fixtures take centre stage this week with a raft of friendlies, including England versus Brazil, Holland taking on Italy and France hosting Germany.
In the English Premier League, Manchester City were held 2-2 by Liverpool and Chelsea lost ground, falling 3-2 to Newcastle.
Manchester United continues to lead the away after a 1-0 win away at Fulham.
Finally, Bournemouth defeated MK Dons 3-0 to move up to third spot in England’s League One.
