Hit-and-run driver caught by police
Thunder Bay Police are reporting that officers have located and arrested a 27-year-old male suspect wanted in connection with a collision and police pursuit event that happened around noon yesterday.
Upon locating the suspect, the officer involved in the pursuit was able to instantly recognize and identify him as the driver, police said Thursday morning. This male will be held for video court this morning.
It is expected he will face criminal charges of: Dangerous driving; flight from police; and public mischief.
On Wednesday, police were urging the driver of a beige Nissan sedan to come forward after it crashed into a N. Vickers Street home.
Police briefly pursued the car in the area of James and Mary streets, but pulled back in the interest of public safety, police said in a news release.
The car was later found abandoned beside the CPR rail line after it was observed in a separate collision at the corner of Gore Street and Mountaindale Avenue.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody Wednesday evening.
