Riders hurt in separate crashes
Thunder Bay Police are investigating a section of Algoma Street, near John Street, to determine how a cyclist was struck and left unconscious with head and chest injuries Tuesday evening.
Superior North EMS paramedics and Thunder Bay firefighters stabilized the male, who is in his late 30s.
A Superior North EMS spokesperson said he was in critical condition at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Thunder Bay Police blocked off a section of Algoma Street between Cornwall and John Street, and were treating the location as a crime scene late Tuesday.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
They say the suspect vehicle, a light-coloured minivan with male driver , swerved into oncoming lane and drove south bound on wrong side of road for quite a distance before swerving into parking lot of 200 block of south Algoma and "intentionally" running over the cyclist.
The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing north bound towards Bay Street in a back lane.
The minivan has damage to the driver's side front bumper, police said.
The victim has been identifed as a 38-year-old male.
