Food banks have own challenges
Healthy diets make healthy people, and healthy people are able to get back into the workforce.
That is the motto of Bill Laidlaw, executive director of the Ontario Association of Food Banks, who visited the Thunder Bay Regional Food Distribution Association facility on Wednesday.
Laidlaw met with Volker Kromm, RFDA executive director, food bank staff and local users of the food distribution system during a Northern swing that included Sudbury, Timmins and Cochrane.
The Ontario Association of Food Banks represents 120 food banks in the province and 1,100 food delivery systems. Laidlaw said the organization services 420,000 Ontarians and 165,000 of those are children.
