Queens host Showcase tourney

The Thunder Bay Queens’ annual Showcase Weekend gets underway today and will continue through to Sunday at Fort William First Nation Arena.
A total of 13 teams will be competing in the three-day event, which will feature three divisions.
The Triad Contracting Queens will go up against the Duluth Icebreakers, Fort Frances Flames and Winnipeg East Saints in the peewee division.
The Manshield Contracting bantam A Queens will take on Fort Frances Leafs and Thunder Bay Fury in the bantam group.
Rounding out the groupings will be the First Class Gas bantam AA Queens taking on Winnipeg East Saints, Schreiber North Shore Stars and Thunder Bay midget Fury.
Both the peewee and bantam AA Queens are fresh off winning All-American Girls tournament titles in Blaine, Minn., Nov. 24.
As there is no AA midget teams attending the showcase this year, the Sportop midget AA Queens will take on their Norcan Tours and Travel midget A counterparts in a challenge contest, set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on rink No. 1 at FWFNA.
As has been the case in the past, there is no admittance charge to attend any of the Queens Showcase games. However, the Queens organization will once again be accepting donations throughout the weekend, which will be presented in their entirety to the Christmas Cheer Fund to help those less fortunate through the holiday season.
