Thunder Bay’s Ashley Kallos got a big win Wednesday night to stay in the thick of things at the Ontario Scotties women’s curling championship.
With an 8-5 win over the Sherry Middaugh rink from Coldwater, Kallos moves into a three-way tie for fourth spot with Sudbury’s Tracy Horgan, who defeated Kallos 10-4 in the afternoon draw.
The Middaugh win came in dramatic fashion as Kallos, lead Jessica Williams, second Laura Viera, and third Oye-Sem Won surged to a 7-5 lead in the ninth by scoring three. The team then managed a steal of one in the 10th to seal the deal.
Today Kallos will put her 2-2 record up against the top- and bottom-ranked teams at the Sault Ste. Marie event.
She’ll face the 4-0 Julie Hastings rink from Toronto at 9 a.m. today in Draw 6.
The afternoon draw puts her up against the home team of Dawna Premo, who are alone in last with an 0-4 record.
