Syed sinks Falcons with 27-point effort

When a laugher got serious in a hurry, Mohammed Syed stepped in to shut the door for good.
Syed scored nine of his 27 points in the final four minutes of the game as the Churchill Trojans held off the rallying St. Ignatius Falcons 89-81 in Thunder Bay high school varsity boys basketball playoff action on Thursday.
The second-ranked Trojans (1-0, playoffs) are now one win away from advancing to the city final of double elimination tournament. They’ll face the Westgate Tigers (2-0), who upset the No. 1 St. Patrick Saints 62-59 in overtime during Thursday’s other playoff game.
