Worker injured in Fort Frances mill blast
A Fort Frances mill worker is in critical condition at a Toronto hospital after an explosion and fire at Resolute Forest Products’ Fort Frances plant on Thursday.
Company spokesman Xavier Van Chau said an operator suffered burns in the early-morning fire in the biomass boiler building.
The worker was flown to Toronto where he is listed in critical condition, Van Chau said.
He said the fire was brought under control and extinguished quickly. The boiler continues to operate.
“Our concerns right now are with the injured worker and his family,’’ Van Chau said.
The Ministry of Labour was contacted and investigation continues into the cause of the explosion and fire.
