Area man receives award for humanitarian work

A Thunder Bay-area resident has been recognized for humanitarian work overseas.
John Ayearst of Shuniah was among 25 volunteer members of GlobalMedic to receive a service award recently from Lt-Gov. David C. Onley.
Ayearst was part of a GlobalMedic rapid response team that headed to the widespread destruction in the Philippines caused by typhoon Haiyan last November.
In 2010, he was also part of a GlobalMedic team that helped residents affected by major flooding in Pakistan.
