Leadership Thunder Bay made an out-of-this-world announcement Thursday: Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is to speak at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium on June 4.
Kristen Oliver, president of Leadership Thunder Bay, said she received an email from a group representing Hadfield and thought an appearance by him would be "a really great event" for Leadership Thunder Bay.’
“We are trying to build a bursary fund so that we can make our program more accessible to people,” said Oliver.
“He is a huge Canadian icon, a national treasure,” she said.
“We put together a proposal and we were accepted.”
Hadfield is slated for two speaking engagements in Thunder Bay: one to more than 1,500 Lakehead Public Schools and Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board students in the afternoon; the other to the general public in the evening.
Tickets for the evening program are on sale now for $55.
