Parents dissatisfied with this ‘justice’
IT’S been two years since our daughter’s future was taken away from her by a drunk driver. Her life now consists of surgery after surgery. Her prospects for a rewarding job are gone. Given her injuries, her expectations for work and family are greatly downsized.
Meanwhile, the irresponsible driver got barely a slap on the wrist, a finger-wagging from the court that amounted to, “Don’t do that again.” She is getting on with a normal life as if this had never happened.
This affects not only our daughter, but the whole family. The stress level in our household has been so high that it has changed every aspect of our lives.
At this point, we should have been the quintessential “empty-nesters.” Now our daughter will require our care until the end of our lives. Hopefully, she will be looked after when we are gone.
