Too loud, too late

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Let me start by saying thank you to Ken Chepesiuk (Stop Fireworks At 11 — letter, July 3). I too have pets — four puppies in fact — who get petrified at the sound of fireworks. We went through Friday evening, Saturday evening, Sunday evening, Monday evening, Tuesday evening, and even some Wednesday evening. All these evenings it took me a good two hours to settle my dogs down. The fireworks on July 1 were really loud.
I enjoy a holiday just like everyone else, but for heaven’s sake stop the fireworks at 11 p.m. On all of the nights mentioned, the fireworks went on past midnight.
Now, that is not right. Shut them down at 11 p.m.
There was even the residue of these fireworks in my back yard, plus my neighbours’ back yard. No one should have to put up with someone else’s garbage in their yard.
Show some respect for both people and pets.
I wish it was illegal to sell fireworks to people to set off in their yards. There are parks to go to if you want to watch fireworks.
