Fan appreciation extended to ailing ’Cats supporter
Our dad, Bob Southern, has been a loyal fan and season ticket holder of the Border Cats for years. Now, due to health issues, he has had to give up his tickets.
As those who sit around him know, he knows a lot about baseball. He was a player and coach for years. Those fans have helped him in so many ways this year, offering to buy coffee, helping him up the stairs, and even offering to pick him up and take him to the game. We can’t thank you all enough.
The Border Cats organization has also offered to help him watch the game he loves.
We recently had the opportunity to take him to one last game (his grandson was umping) and many people came to say hi and help him. As his daughter, it made me proud that Dad was that respected.
The other morning, a knock came at his door and there was Gary Babich with an autographed bat from the Border Cats in appreciation for his support over the years. You have no idea how this gesture lifted his spirits.
Our family would like to say a great big thank you to the Border Cats and to the fans who have helped an old man enjoy a favourite sport. We hope we will be able to get him to more games in the spring but if not he will be cheering from home.
