Foodies just got a delicious new opportunity.

The Finlandia Association of Thunder Bay (FATB) is honoured to welcome Finnish chef, restaurateur and food ambassador, Kim Palhus, to oversee two exciting culinary events taking place in October around the theme of Finland’s 100th anniversary and the menu celebrating it.

Kim is one half of the design team that put together the menu that is being served up in all Finnish embassies around the world in 2017. According to him, “the Finland 100 menu brings people together to share a meal and to share the message of Finnish food and drink culture . . . all of the courses feature Finland’s pristine nature and its offerings, from wild food to grain. In planning the menu, consideration was given to Finland’s long food and drink culture and to Finnish flavours.”

The events in October begin with a draw for a gourmet sit-down dinner with wine pairings for one lucky winner and seven of his/her friends. The meal will comprise elements of the Finland 100 menu, as well as a few surprise twists; a prize valued at approximately $1000.

Second prize is a 10-piece gourmet cooking set valued at $780 and third prize is a gourmet gift basket worth $250. Only 1,000 tickets have been printed and are available are available at the Hoito, the Kitchen Nook, Current River Bakery, Thunder Bay Country Market, Muloin’s Garage and Lappe store for $10 each or three for $25. The draw will take place on Oct.13 and the dinner will be held on Oct.19, after hours, at the Hoito.

If you don’t want to take a chance on the draw, you can guarantee your place at the table by buying a ticket to the Suomi 100 dinner. Also paired with wines, this four-course dinner will delight your taste buds and show you a glimpse into the soul of Finnish food. Tickets for this are also available at the Hoito, Thunder Bay Country Market and the Finnish Book Store for $100 each.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Finnish Labour Temple, lovingly referred to as the Finlandia.
