About 20 First Nations in Ontario’s remote north are being impacted — some worse than others — by smoky conditions caused by more than 25 forest fires burning across the region, Indigenous Services Canada says.

“Smoke from both the Ontario and Manitoba fires is drifting into the area on and off, depending on wind direction,” an Indigenous Services Canada bulletin said Thursday.

So far, only Keewaywin First Nation, located 500 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay, has undergone an evacuation.
