The prospect of a new gold mine on Geraldton’s doorstep has taken a major step closer to reality following the federal government’s environmental approval for the $1.25-billion project.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna approved Greenstone Gold’s Hardrock proposal last week, about a month after the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) concluded it would not cause adverse effects as long as mitigation measures were carried out.
