Marshalls is filling the empty space by left by Sears in Intercity Shopping Centre.
A spokesperson for TJX Canada confirmed to the Chronicle-Journal on Wednesday that the Marshalls department store will take over the former Sears location in the Intercity mall.
A timeline on when the store could open in the mall was not provided by Wednesday evening.
A Marshalls store was initially set to open in the space currently used by HomeSense in Intercity after the new HomeSense and Winners superstore opens in the Thunder Centre on March 20.
The new superstore is 42,000 square feet and will offer clothing, accessories, home decor and giftware.
“The HomeSense and Winners superstore will provide our customers who live and work in the area with the convenience, value, quality and brand name selection that HomeSense and Winners are known for,” said HomeSense spokesperson Tamara Robbins Griffith in a news release issued Tuesday.
“With new items arriving in-store daily, the store will offer shoppers an exciting destination with irresistible finds at exceptional prices,” she said.
The grand opening is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. on March 20 with regular store hours of 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
To celebrate the grand opening, the company will be donating $5,000 to the Canadian Women’s Foundation.
HomeSense, Winners and Marshalls are owned by the TJX Companies Inc. There are 264 Winners, 117 HomeSense stores and 73 Marshalls in Canada.
Also setting up shop in Intercity is Fast Time Watch and Jewellery Repair, which was formally located in Sears.
The repair business had its contract terminated by Sears once Sears Canada declared bankruptcy last fall and they were forced to close.
However, Fast Tiime Watch and Jewellry Repair has now opened a new location within the mall and their Thunder Bay employees have transferred to the new space.
