A transitional housing project for Indigenous youths will “dramatically” impact the surrounding neighbourhood, says Red River Ward Coun. Brian McKinnon.
McKinnon is hosting a public meeting on June 20 at the Boys and Girls Club to inform the area’s residents of the proposed project, but also to hear feedback.
The Ontario Aboriginal Housing project initially proposed a 20-unit supportive housing project for Indigenous youths aged 18 to 29. The city granted a portion of the land between the Boys and Girls Club and Superior North EMS headquarters on Junot Avenue for the building in September of last year.
The housing organization has now secured more land in addition to the portion from the city and plans to expand the project from 20 units to nearly 60.
