The Lakehead University women’s basketball team is right back where they need to be, the win column. The Thunderwolves earned their first win in four games after defeating the visiting Waterloo Warriors by a score of 70-50. The win improves LU’s record to 8-9, while Waterloo drops to 1-16 in the OUA West Division.

In their final regular season home game, playing in front of the largest crowd of the season, the Thunder Bay North Stars rallied past a two-goal deficit before coming up empty at the end.
The Wisconsin Wilderness defeated the North Stars 3-2 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action on Friday night at the Fort William Gardens.

The 13th annual edition of the CBC’s coast-to-coast lovefest of the sport on Feb. 11 will be based out of the Prince Edward Island town and hold satellite stops in six other cities, including the Lakehead.

What a true gift it was to be at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships last week to witness history, as Patrick Chan skated to victory in record-breaking style.
As the crowd rose to their feet with 20 seconds left in his program, drowning out the music with their cheers and whoops and hollers, it brought goose bumps to my arms and a tear to my cheek.

Replacing the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s all-time wins leader among coaches can’t be easy, but Lonny Bohonos got off to a great start.
In their first game since Bohonos replaced Todd Howarth as head coach, the Thunder Bay North Stars defeated the Wisconsin Wilderness 4-0 on Wednesday evening at the Fort William Gardens.

The American Hockey League’s most recent player of the week honour went to Thunder Bay’s Carter Hutton.
The Rockford IceHogs goaltender was recognized for a 4-0-0 week while allowing just five goals in those four outings by turning aside 121 of 126 shots he faced helping the IceHogs put together their longest winning streak of the season.
