Stoney,
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Marcella Stoney, age 43, of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Marcella was born in Kenora and was later adopted by Rose Machura of Atikokan. Marcella grew up in Atikokan, attending public school and graduating from the Atikokan High School. She was very active in the music program in which she played the saxophone and enjoyed woodworking. After high school, Marcella continued on to college but due to health issues, was not able to continue. She enjoyed playing the guitar for family and friends and was probably Elvis‘ greatest fan. Marcella's greatest adventure was to see Graceland and tour around Memphis. At home, she was very involved with woodworking and many other crafts. She was also an aspiring artist, her drawings depicting native culture. She was able to showcase some of her drawings at local businesses and sold many of them. She volunteered many hours at different organizations and was involved with Native Friendship Centers. Marcella had moved to Thunder Bay several years ago and in 1995, gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Ashley Rose. Ashley was always the centre of Marcella's life; she was extremely proud to have raised such a caring, loving daughter. Marcella was a wonderful, loving mother to Ashley and raised her to be able to endure life full of spirit and wisdom. Ashley was Marcella's greatest joy as was her adoptive mother, Rose. Prior to becoming ill, Marcella enjoyed the outdoors, spending many outings on a snow machine. She loved old cars and anything with Elvis‘ mark on it. Marcella was predeceased by her maternal mother and father, her adoptive mother Rose, two siblings from her maternal parents and by her sister Jackie from her adoptive family as well as her nephew Jarrett. Here to mourn her loss is her daughter Ashley, father Melvin, maternal siblings: Eric, Marilyn, Verna, and Eva; adoptive siblings: Shirley (Bernie), Frank, Roger (Velma) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services for the late Marcella Stoney will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 8th, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund is set up for her daughter Ashley c/o the Royal Bank on Victoria Avenue, Thunder Bay, Ontario. On-Line Condolences may be offered at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca
