DR. JEANNE LeCAINE AGNEW Dr. Jeanne LeCaine Agnew of Stillwater, OK, age 83, passed away at the Grace Living Center, Payne, May 8, 2000. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada (now Thunder Bay, Ontario), May 3, 1917. Parents Hubert C. LeCaine and Susan (Smith) LeCaine. Married to Theodore L. Agnew on Dec. 25, 1942 in Sheridan, Ontario. She Attended school in Port Arthur and graduated from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute in 1932. Received BA in 1937 from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, with a major in mathematics and minor in economics. She also received her MA in 1938 from Queen's University and Ph.D. in 1941 from Harvard University. She was a mathematics instructor at Smith College from 1941-1942; she was Research Physicist, National Research Council of Canada (Montreal Branch) from 1942-1945. She was then mathematics instructor at Cambridge (Mass. ) Junior College from 1946-1947; a part-time mathematics instructor at Oklahoma State University from 1948-1956; Assistant Professor in Mathematics at Oklahoma State University from 1956-1960; Associate Professor in Mathematics at Oklahoma State University from 1962-1969; Visiting Associate Professor in Mathematics, Georgia State College 1966-1967; Professor, Mathematics at Oklahoma State University 1969-1984; and Professor Emeritus, Mathematics, 1984-date at Oklahoma State University. She received her LLD in 1987 from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, and LLD in 1989 from Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario. Occupation: Mathematics Prof. at OSU. CivicOrganizations, Lodges: American Mathematical Society, Mathematical Association of America, Pi Mu Epsilon, Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She belonged to First United Methodist Church of Stillwater and Trinity United Church of Thunder Bay.Predeceased by parents, one brother and infant son. Survived by husband Theodore L. Agnew of the home; 3 sons Theodore Lee Agnew, III, of Norman, OK; Hugh Le Caine Agnew of Springfield, VA; Peter Wallace Agnew of Freeport, IL; 2 daughters Susan E. Balestreri of Anacortes, WA; and Marion J. Agnew of Ft. Collins, CO. ;7 grandchildren Elizabeth, Peter, Robert, Colin, Fiona, Brendan, and Bronwyn, and 1 sister Allison LeCaine Creighton of Tustin, CA.
