AHTILAMrs. Senja Sylvi Ahtila, age 80 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away, peacefully, on Thursday, April 22, 2004 in St. Joseph"s Hospital.Born and raised in North McIntyre Township on August 29th, 1923 she had attended local schools. Senja was employed with Hogarth Westmount Hospital as a Nurses Aid until her retirement at age 64. She will be fondly remembered by many friends she made throughout her time at work, especially by the many handicap children she had cared for. Senja had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to plants, flowers and working in her garden. Bingo was a highlight for her and she enjoyed going camping in her earlier years. A warm and loving grandmother, she was especially proud of her grandchildren. Senja's home and family were her main interests throughout her life. Senja will be sadly missed by her loving children: Vivian Ojanpera, Leo (Arlene) of Kenora, Alan (Lynda), Sheila (Victor) Hoxell, and Bonnie (Daniel) Nicholas of Shrewsbury, MASS; grandchildren Michael, Keith, Darren, Carolyn, Shannon, Curtis, Tuula, and Erin; great-grandchildren: Barry, Arly, and Adam; sister Ina Little of Ottawa. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents Alma and Toivo Ristanen; husband Pennti; brothers Viljo and Leo; sister Kerttu.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 27th, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, with Pastor Marko Selkomaa of Saalem Pentecostal Church officiating. Services to be completed in the chapel with cremation to follow. Private interment of Ashes will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. , in Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Senja's memory to Northern Cancer Research Foundation.
