Mr. Arne Mathew Allan, age 86 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday morning, October 15, 2010 with family by his side.
Born in Gorham Township, Arne graduated from Port Arthur Technical and Commercial High School, and in 1943 joined the RCNVR, serving on the HMCS New Liskard until his discharge in 1945. He was employed by Marathon Paper Mill and successor companies, retiring as a Purchasing Agent for the Mill and Woodlands in June, 1982. A member of St. Paul’s United Church, he served on the board of managers in the 1950’s, transferring to Marathon in 1963. Past President of the Marathon Curling Club and Lions Club, Arne was a member of St. John’s United Church in Marathon, Past Master of Masonic Lodge Port Arthur #499, Go Slow Seniors Curling Club, and a former member of Lappe Local Services Board. Arne enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing, and his home in the country.
Arne is survived by his wife Audrey; 2 daughters: Linda Allan (Ken) of Calgary, Alberta, and Sandra (Ken) Perry of Thunder Bay; son Robert (Pauline) of Thunder Bay; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Matti, brother Eino, and son Richard in 1973.
Following cremation, a private Graveside Service will be held at Riverside Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society would be appreciated.
