Allan, Donald Hill

Mr. Donald Hill Allan, passed away peacefully in hospital on Thursday, June 12, 2003 with his loving family by his side. Born in Scotland on October 3rd, 1920, Don's family moved to Fort William, Ontario when he was a young boy, where he was locally educated. He loyally served in the Canadian Army-LSR (Motor) during WWII (1942-1946), was a member of the LSR (Motor) Old Boys Association and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6. He was employed by the Canadian Grain Commission for 40 years, retiring in 1984. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and tinkering with cars. A member of Broadway United Church, Don enjoyed singing in the choir, and his church family were very important to him. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by Muriel, his loving wife of 58 years, daughter Gail (Ron Saarinen), granddaughters Crystal and Mandy, sister Anne Kuster (Norm) of Mississauga , sister- in-law Joan Johnston, nephew Ian Johnston, nieces Joyce Miller of Mississauga and Janice Kuster-Keenan of Pittsburgh and grand dog "Julian". Other relatives in Scotland also survive.Predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth Allan and brother-in-law George Johnston. In keeping with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 16'h, 2003 at Broadway United Church, 1303 Broadmore Avenue. All services complete in the church. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to a charity of choice.
