Allan, Ralph Alexander
Mr. Ralph Alexander Allan, resident of Thunder Bay, died at his residence Friday, January 31, 2003. Ralph was a life long resident of Thunder Bay. He married Phyllis on the 17th of August 1954. Ralph was very active growing up, when he wasn't tending to the family farm in O'Connor township, he could be found playing goal for number of different hockey clubs, the Columbus Club and the Hurricane Rangers to name a few. Ralph attended Franklin Street School and later graduated from Selkirk - Vocational School. He then went on to serve his country in the Second World War aboard the Canadian Mine Sweeper Outarde. Upon his return he started work with the CPR firing Steam Engines and then moving on to become a Locomotive Engineer, until he retired in 1986.He was an active member of the Elks and Army, Navy and Air force Lodges serving on the board of directors at various times. He was very fond of the outdoors and spent many summers with the family at the camp in Ignace. Ralph's family was always very important to him and he held a special place in his heart for all of them especially his grandchildren. Ralph is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Gordon, daughter Liane Niles and her husband John Toronto ON, grandchildren Sarah, Alyssa, Nathanael, Aaron, and Tabitha. Sisters and brothers May O'Brien, South Hampton ON, Alice Grant, Langdon AB, Hester Allan, Thunder Bay, Ruth Aho, Thunder Bay, Max Allan and Pauline, Calgary AB; sisters-in-law Teeny Allan, Laura Bloom, Cathy Carmichael, Edith Lander, brothers-in-law Hugh & Gordon Carmichael. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Matilda and Hugh Allan, sisters Isabel Pomranki, Florence Godfrey, Wilma Johnson, Margaret Malmborg and brothers Warren, Rod, Archie Allan, sisters-in-law Anne, Muriel Allan brothers-in-law Ed O'Brien, Emil Pomarank, Gunnard Aho, Bill Godfrey, Bob Johnson, Rod Grant. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 03, 2003 at 11:00 a. .m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dr. John Niles officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or a charity of your choice.A tree will be planted in memory of Ralph Allan in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
