Leona passed away peacefully Saturday, August 14, 2010 in her 84th year. Leona was recently transferred from Pinewood Court, Thunder Bay to Dover Cliff, Port Dover, Ontario.

Married for 39 years to Phil Asselin (deceased) they raised their family in Red Rock, Ontario. She is survived by her children; Wayne (wife Linda) of Nipigon; Kim (husband Glen) of Delhi, Ontario; Lori (husband Paavo) of Thunder Bay. She was predeceased by her husband Phil, daughter Karen, grandson Shawn and friend Al Jason.

Leona is survived by 9 grandchildren; Wayne’s children Shaun and Shannon; Karen’s children Bradley and Natalie; Kim’s children Camille, Lani and Ryan; Lori’s children Amy and Matthew; and by 16 great grandchildren.

Predeceased by two brothers Archie Gosselin and Ned Gosselin, and two sisters Blanche Armit and Bette Carpenter. She is survived by one sister Verna Erickson of Denver, Colorado. Leona has left behind two brother-in-laws Ed Asselin and wife Joan of Red Rock, Dave Armit of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and three sister-in-laws Diane Arnold and Delia Daley both of Thunder Bay and Lorraine Gosselin of Fort Frances, Ontario and numerous nieces and nephews.

Through the years Leona enjoyed her service with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Catholic Woman’s League where she made lifelong friendships. Leona will be remembered for her love of life, family and friends. She maintained her inner strength and humour through the struggling years with Alzheimer’s.

Heartfelt thanks to “our angels” the staff of Hummingbird Wing at Pinewood Court. The family will forever be grateful for the years of tender loving care of mom.

Cremation will take place in Southern Ontario. Leona will be laid to rest with her husband Phil in Fort Frances, Ontario at a later date. There will be no memorial service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Leona’s memory to the “Resident’s Council of Pinewood Court”, Pinewood Court, 2625 Walsh Street E., Thunder Bay, Ontario P7E 2E5.
