Mrs. Helen Axent, loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 28, 2007. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario (Thunder Bay) to Alex and Mary Solotwinsky. A lifetime resident of Thunder Bay, Helen attended local schools and in her younger years worked at Sears. She was always thought of as a "loving, kind person" by all who knew her. Helen married John (Johnny) Axent and together they loved to travel, taking many trips to Duluth and Arizona. Helen enjoyed weekly outings which included lunches and shopping, always on the lookout for the latest styles. Ultimately Helen loved spending time in her home. She spent many hours in her kitchen baking and cooking her famous cabbage rolls and "Nana‚s Special Soups" as her great grandchildren can attest. Other hobbies included crocheting and especially her flower and vegetable gardens which she generously shared with her family. Helen will be sadly missed by daughter, Joan Ball, grandsons Rick (Kathy) and Marty (Jen) Ball (here), granddaughter Susan (Carmine) Richichi (Sault Ste. Marie) as well as great randchildren Jordan and Allyson Ball and Marc Richichi, nephews Sam (Audrey) Rich and Family, Ed Rich and Family, Bobby Solotwinsky and family, niece Gloria (Dave) Phelan and family. sisters- in- law, Madeline Michaels, Betty (Bill) Berklund and family, Vernice Axent and family as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband John, parents,Alex & Mary Solotwinsky, brothers Mike Michaels and John Solotwinsky, sister Anna Rich and Grandson in infancy, Steven Ball. mother-in-law Dora, father- in- law Nicholas, sisters in law Helen, Mary, Stella, Pauline, Elsie and Anne, niece Beverly, brothers- in-law Mike, Bill, Art and Alex. As per Helen‚s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 1:30 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma with Father Richard Kowalchuk of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church officiating. Private interment of Ashes will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service time in the EVEREST CHAPEL.
