Baker, Constance M.
(1920 - 2003)It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Constance 'Connie' Baker, September 7, 2003, at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (McKellar Site) after a brief illness with her family at her side. Connie was the 12th child of thirteen children born to Benjamin and Brigid Vezina of Chapleau, Ontario, May 22nd 1920. Following her marriage to CharlesWilliam Baker in 1939, she settled in Thunder Bay (Fort William) where she and Dad raised their family. During the period of the 1960's to 1977 Connie worked with physically and mentally handicapped children at the former Hogarth Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. Connie was always popular and well-liked among her co-workers and in her community. Her church and family continued as her main interests throughout her life. She was predeceased by her husband, 'Charlie' Baker in 1977, her companion Ture Benson, 1990, and son-in-law Peter Johnson in 1996. Connie is survived by her six children: Marlene (Jim Richmond); Ted (Diana); Ellen (Philip Lalonde); Jim (Janice); John (Susie); Chris (Judy); three sisters: Veda Cote, ( Aurora, ON); Sister Vivian Vezina (Sisters of St. Joseph, Toronto, ON) and Olive Card (Thunder Bay); 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren all of Thunder Bay also survive. Prayers at St. Elizabeth's Church, Tuesday, September 9th at 8:00 p.m. As mother requested, cremation has taken place with Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Elizabeth's Church, Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Richard Kowalchuk and co-celebrants Rev. David Gillen and Rev. Francis Pudicherry presiding. Reception in St. Elizabeth's church hall. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if expressions of sympathy were made to: The George Jeffries Children's Treatment Centre; The Samaritan's Purse Foundation or the McKellar Intensive Care Unit.
