Bennett, Frederic

At Telfer Place, Paris on Friday, November 22, 2002 Frederick H. Bennett formerly of Brantfort, Thunder Bay and Elmvale; in his 93rd year. Fred leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 69 years, May (nee Anna May Garland). He was the dearly loved and loving father of Audrey Stratford, Paris, Gord and Carolyn Bennett, Port Elgin, (daughter-in-law) Donna Bennett, Orillia and Marilyn and Murray Hopton, Brampton. He was predeceased by his younger son (O.P.P. Constable_ George Hubert Bennett on February 12, 1980. Mr. Bennett was the gentle and loving grandfather of the Stratford kids. John, Cathy, Jim, Carolyn, Andy and Sharon; the Bennett kids, Rick, Debbie and Ron; Jeff Bennett, London, Ont. , and the Hopton kids, Steve and Mike. His 17 'Great grands' will remember him as the loving Grandpa B. who liked to joke with them. He will be lovingly remembered by his youngest sister, Rose Griffin of Oshawa and his brother-in-law, Gord Garland of Toronto and many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his mother Nellie Bennett, brother Jim and sister Floss Squibb, Ivy Smith and LilMorgan. He immigrated to Canada with his family from Ferring, West Sussex, England in 1919. He volunteered for service in WW2 in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineersof Barryfield, Kingston serving as an Instructor until 1944. He saw service in England, France, Germany and Holland and was discharged in 1945. He retired from the Ontario Department of Corrections in June, 1971 after 23 years service. Mr. Bennett was a gentle man of strong Christian faith. Friends will be received at the Wm. KIPP FUNERAL HOME, 184 Grand River Street North, Paris on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 12:30 p.m. where funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Sheila Burns of Glen Morris United Church officiating. Interment Glen Morris Cemetery. His family would appreciate remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The Alzheimer's Society or the Glen Morris United Church.
