Birch, Clarence

BIRCHMr. Clarence Birch age 77 years, a resident of 20 Walkover Street passed away at his residence on Tuesday, January 30, 2001. Born in Neepawa, Manitoba in 1923, he was raised and educated in Gladstone, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1940 and served in Canada and overseas for five years. He returned to Canada and was employed with the Canadian Grain Commissions until his retirement in 1978. He married his loving wife Jenny Kocan in 1953, she predeceased him in 1986. Clarence spent a lot of his time at his country cottage in Stanley, and gardening was his most enjoyable hobby. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for a number of years, joining at Portage la Prairie, MB in 1946, and lately was a member of the Ortona Legion Branch #113 in Thunder Bay. Clarence is survived by two daughters Janice Kuch and husband Walter, two grandsons Nathan and Eric of Thunder Bay, daughter Maureen Baker, two grandsons Jason and Chad of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. , two sisters Beatrice Williams of Nipigon and Rose Farrow of Dryden, ON, nieces and nephews also survive. Predeceased by his parents Harold and Lillian Birch, three sisters Ruth, Betty and Florence, two brothers Arthur and Harold. According to Clarence's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at 2:00 pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverly Street at Algoma. Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service time. Final interment of Ashes will be at a later date. If friends so desire, donations made to the Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. A donationhas been made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in honour of Mr. Clarence Birch by Everest of Thunder Bay.
