It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our dear sister, Sharon Bjorklund, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at St. Josephs Hospital, Hospice Unit with family and close friends by her side.
Sharon was a unique and deeply caring person who struggled with hearing loss since the age of eight years, and fought vehemently throughout her lifetime for change to assist others with hearing loss. She had been a pillar of a volunteer in the community since 1975, and received the Volunteer Award of Excellence through the Hearing Society of Thunder Bay where she occupied every position on the executive. Sharon also worked for 43 years at the Lakehead University in the Registrars Office, and was responsible for setting up their coding system which is in existence today.
When it came to hobbies she had many. Of particular note was the time Sharon spent gardening, making jewellery, photography and the outdoors.
Sharon is survived by her sisters Sandra Cope (partner Gerry) and Donna Bjorklund (both of Winnipeg), her brother Brian Bjorklund as well as many relatives and friends who will miss her. She was a devoted aunt to Deb, April, Kelly (Sylvie) and great aunt to Madyson, Tyrese, and Kasey. Sharon was predeceased by her mother, Mary Charlotte Bjorklund, on October 7, 1996, and her father Erik, Victor Bjorklund, on September 10, 1965.
Following cremation, Funeral services for the late Sharon Bjorklund will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 3rd, 2012 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Archdeacon Mark Conliffe. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery following the reception. If friends so desire, donations made in Sharons memory to the Canadian Hearing Society, Thunder Bay Regional Office, would be greatly appreciated.
