Mr. Malcolm Alexander "Sandy" Brown, age 85 years, a long time resident of Strathcona Avenue, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital-Port Arthur General. Sandy was born on July 10, 1918 in Tiverton, Ontario. He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. Following his military service he came to Port Arthur in 1945. In 1946 he married Eileen Poling with whom he had six children. Sandy enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cribbage at the Current River Rec. Centre and the 55 Plus Centre, and in earlier days he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was very proud of the 6 years that he spent working with others on the book "H.M.C.S. Griffon A Naval History" and the histories of the men who enlisted there. Sandy worked at Provincial Papers as a Stationary Engineer for 22 years and later with Ontario Hydro as a Warehouse Foreman for 15 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Naval Association and Branch #5 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Eileen, 6 children: Tom (Denise), Jerry, Patricia (Larry) Pepper, Linda (Rod) Brown-Christian, Sandy Jr. and Marianne Brown; 3 grandchildren: Aaron and Tyler Pepper and Alexander Brown-Christian; sister Mary (Tom) Jacobsen as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Ethel and 3 brothers: Bill, Allen and Jack. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15th at 1:30 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. P.M. Stilla officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel.
