Buniak, Stefan
Stefan Buniak, age 90 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Monday, April 9, 2012 with god-daughter, Hanya, and husband, Rudy, at his side. Stefan was born on May 7, 1921 in Buchach, Western Ukraine. Upon coming to Canada, he was employed at the CPR until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration and League of Ukrainian Canadians. He was a strong supporter of many charities including the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko. Stefan will be sadly missed by his niece Marika Hancharyk and extended family and friends in Ukraine and France; also by Hanya, Rudy and Michelle Cvornjek, Tarnawsky and Pylypchuk families. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Hanya and Paraska of Ukraine. Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ukrainian Church of the Transfiguration, 629 McIntosh Street, celebrated by Rev. Vladimir Chvets. Interment will take place in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on the evening of Wednesday, April 10, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 South May Street. Panachyda will be held at 7:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Stefan's memory to the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko - 202-952 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
A tree will be planted in memory of Stefan Buniak in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2013.
