Carniato, Josephine Violet
Mrs. Josephine Violet Carniato, age 76 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, died in Ottawa Hospital on Tuesday, November 5, 2002. Josie was born in Winnipeg and moved to the city following her marriage to her loving husband Planky. She was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church where she became very involved as a life member of the Catholic Women's League, serving as Diocesan President for two terms and the President of the Catholic Women's League of St. Elizabeth's for three terms. She dedicated a lot of her time volunteering and doing charity work for numerous organizations. The Knights of Columbus twice nominated Josie and her husband Planky as Family of the year. Over the years many awards were given to her from the City of Thunder Bay for her volunteer work. Josie lived her life to the fullest and did a lot of traveling throughout the world. She enjoyed entertaining and gardening and spent many hours at it, in fact she created her own paradise in her back yard, along with dad's help, of course. Family and friends meant everything to Josie. She planned many great parties and gatherings and always saw the goodness in everyone, never judging a single soul. Josie will be sadly missed by all. Those who knew Josie will remember what she has accomplished and how she touched our lives. She was Leader of the Girl Guides of Canada for 10 years, ending her dedicated service as a Lieutenant. Josie is survived by her husband of 54 years Plinio (Planky), son David (Joanne), granchildren Carissa and Quinn, daughter Andrea (Rodney) Junkala, granchildren Robert and Erin, son Peter (Debbie), Lorena (James) Liikala, grandchildren Andre, Patrick and Jenny and three great-grandchkildren, all of Thunder Bay, brother Quinto Pagnoni (Georgette) Newbury California. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Josephine was predeceased by her father Sesto and mother Maria Pagnoni, sisters Sara Margarit and Dina Mills. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Elizabeth's Church at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Vigil Services will be offered on Monday November 11, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. , in the St. Elizabeth's Church. if friends desire, memorials to Shelter House would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of Josephine Carniato in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
