CHASE, John R. of Nipigon, passed away at LHSC, University Hospital, London on Sunday, April 25, 2010, in his 68th year. Beloved husband of Wanda (Sanderson) Chase. Dearly loved father of Warren Chase of Trenton, Joelle Thornton (Scott) of Blue Mountain, Lee-Ann Bolton (Sean) of Hurkett, and Chrissy McQuarrie of St. Thomas. Proud grandfather of Mitchell, Zachery, Hayden, Garren, Nash, Zoe, Isabella, Chase, Brock and Carter. Dear brother of Donald Chase (Peg) of Thunder Bay. Also fondly remembered by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Edith (Oby) Chase, an infant son, and by a brother Bruce. Born in Port Arthur, ON, March 11, 1943, John came to Red Rock in 1964 where he taught at St. Hilary’s Separate School for two years. He moved to Nipigon Public (George O’Neill) in 1966 and retired after thirty four years of teaching, two of which were spent at Dorion Public School. John was a Principal Designate for fifteen years, and a Past President of the Local Union of the Ontario Public School Teacher’s Federation. John was a charter member of the Nipigon Lion’s Club and a member of the Nipigon Rotary Club. He was a member and served on the executive of Branch #32, Royal Canadian Legion, Nipigon, was an executive member of the Nipigon Men’s Bowling League, a Building Chairman and executive member of the Nipigon Curladrome and an ardent curler for over twenty years. John was a former volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver. He was an avid sports fan, outdoorsman and a wonderful coach. After retirement, John and Wanda enjoyed living at the lake, visiting their children and grandchildren, and wintering in Texas. At John’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or public funeral service. A private family service to celebrate his life will be held.
