Christensen, Grace Janet

Grace Janet Christensen, age 73, passed away peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, early June 29th with her loving sister Ruth by her side. She was born September 15th, 1937, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She moved to Fort William a year later. She started her career hairdressing, but had to give it up for her health. She then worked as a custodian at Lakehead University for 23 years, until asthma forced her to retire. Not willing to quit working, she continued to babysit for many years. Her family, her friends and her faith were very important to her. When her health was better, she sang in the Redwood Church Choir, singing soprano in the Cantata. To her last days, she kept a keyboard at home. She enjoyed travelling to Cody, Wyoming to visit her brother Ed, Meta and family, and going with Ruth Galbraith and friends around the lake to see the colours, until her health kept her from travelling. She looked forward to weekly lunches with niece Linda at the Husky and with sister Ruth at the Scandinavian Home. She is predeceased by her mother, Helen Gennick, sister Emily Carlson, aunt Sally and uncle Joe Rozinski. She is survived by her sister Ruth Makris, sister Joyce Larabee (Jim), brother Ed Christensen (Meta) of Cody, Wyoming, niece Linda Hahn (Julian), niece Debra Andony (Terry), nieces Joan and Judy, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families across Canada and the U.S., Anne, Susan and Ernie Wade, Dorothy Peterson, Alex Valley, Ruth Hall, Janet Brown, Vivian, Lorraine, Thelma and Marge. Thanks to the staff at Regional for their kindness, and to family and friends for their visits. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place Monday, July 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Manion Court, 130 W. Donald Street, where Grace lived for many years. Private interment will take place after the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
