Mr. Michele Costanzo, age 69 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital with his family by his side.Michele was born in Borboruso, Cosenza, Italy. In 1960 , he emigrated to Canada and soon after began his family. He was the husband of Fiorita (Rita), and father to Marisa (Sudbury), Sandra (Robert) (Australia), Sergio (Delia) and Rachel of Thunder Bay. He was a loving grandfather to Jessica, Vanessa, Michael (Australia), and Jamie, Nicole (Thunder Bay).Whether giving out chocolates, or setting up the swing set, he always had time for the Kids. "Nonno" knew how to entertain when he'd break out his organetto (accordian) and play for them as they would clap and dance around. Even through his courageous battle with cancer, he managed to play a last time for all to enjoy. He was a loving man with a kind heart, eager to offer his prize winning vegetables to anyone who stopped by. After thirty-three years of service, he retired from Great West Timber in August 1999. He traveled, gardened, took siestas, played cards, and did "Nonno stuff" during his retirement. Michele was also a member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur. Michele is survived by his sisters Serafina and Giovannina and brother Luciano (Italy) as well as sister Marietta in Australia. He is uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Natale and Theresa Costanzo, sister Finita and brother Giuseppe, all from Italy. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 2nd, leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 9:00 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, 123 Hilldale Road. Private Family Entombment to follow in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday January 1st, 2004 in the afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 4:00 p.m. the same afternoon in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.
