Mr. Gordon Thomas Craig, age 87 years, loving husband and father, passed away with his wife and family by his side on Thursday November 27, 2008 at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Gordon was born on October 29, 1921 in Sinclair, Manitoba. At a young age he moved with his family to Ontario. He worked various jobs before settling at CN, where he eventually worked his way up to Carman. He retired in 1986 after 35 years of dedicated service. Gordon especially enjoyed his years with CN, the friends he made, and the practical jokes they played on one another. The stories were told again and again, but he and his family never got tired of them or sharing in the smiles and laughter they brought. Gordon shared his love of hunting, snaring rabbits, and fishing with his sons and sons-in-law. His wife and family were his life; he loved spending time with them, whether it was camping, traveling, or making weekend trips to Middle Falls. He was an enthusiast of hockey, country music, cowboy movies and toffee. He spent his older and wiser years spoiling his grandchildren, wearing his many trucker hats, and playing cards in the kitchen over endless cups of tea. Weekdays, no matter what he was up to, he'd rush home for 4:00 to have dinner and to see what "Moustache" was up to. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jane; children Gerald (Connie) Craig, Darlene (Jerry) Lagimodiere, Norine (Ron) Godwin, Clara Lamke, Shirley Halme, Winston (Barb) Rahmer, Bea (Orla) Larsen, Floyd (Helen) Rahmer, June Pitt, Judy Lem, and Cindy (Jim) Karasiewicz. Also surviving are daughters-in-law Myrtle (John) and Margo (Larry) Rahmer, sisters-in-law Gertie and June Craig, approximately 45 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is predeceased by parents Robert and Bernice Craig; brothers Russ, Reg and Andy Craig, sister Lillian Sambray; and sons John and Larry Rahmer. Funeral services for the late Mr. Gordon Craig will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday December 1, 2008 in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, with Rev. Jan Stevenson officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Westfort Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or the Children's Wish Foundation. Please sign the online condolences at everestofthunderbay.com
