Dennis, Susan
Mrs. Susan Dennis, of 405-165 North Court Street, passed away on December 24, 2005 in the T.B.R.H.S.C. with her daughter, Jacqueline, and niece, Ellen Liman, at her side. Born Susan Marshal Martin Dunsmore in Morningside, Scotland, in 1905, she was orphaned at the age of 13 years and immigrated to Port Arthur in 1925. She was married to John (Jack) Dennis in 1929 and, together, they established a home at the height of the Depression. Susan's life focused mainly on her home and family and her church. She was the oldest member of St. Paul's United Church and devoted many hours to the work of the UCW (Unit 2) from whom she received a Life Membership. She was honoured on her 100th birthday with a letter from the Moderator of the United Church of Canada. In her earlier years she was a member of the True Blue Lodge, volunteered with the Girl Guide Association and as a hospital visitor with the Red Cross. Although she was proud of her Scottish heritage, she became a loyal Canadian and travelled from coast to coast with Jack and Jacqueline. Susan is survived by her loving daughter, Jacqueline, nieces Frances (George) Burns, Verna Siegrist, nephew Ernest Travolo and great niece Ellen Liman and her son Jesse in Thunder Bay. Also surviving are nieces Kathleen (Charles) Swanson, Ethel Dennis, Joyce Dennis, Jean Orr and Beryl Henders in Manitoba and B.C. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Jack, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street, conducted by Julia Sinclair. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held Wednesday (this evening) from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street. If friends so desire, memorials to St. Paul's United Church would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com
