Ditchefield, Vernon
Vernon Robinson Ditchfield, age 84, passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor, Thunder Bay, on June 15, 2005. Vern was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Vern was born in McDougal Township, Ontario and grew up on the Nipigon River in the community of Cameron Falls. Many happy days were spent hunting and fishing on the river. A veteran of World War II, Vern served in England, Italy, Belgium and Holland. Vern was a skilled electrician, a mechanical genius who could fix anything, and had a long career with Ontario Hydro. Vern was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was passionate about his dogs and was dedicated to his Spaniel Charlie. Vern will be sadly missed by his wife Lois, his son Bob (Calgary), his son David and his wife Wilma (Lyndhurst) and his daughter Nancy Armstrongand her husband Murray (Thunder Bay). Papa is survived by his grandchildren Christopher and Nicole Armstrong, Krista Morriseau (Ottawa), Tanya Ditchfield (ThunderBay), Sarah Ditchfield-Monaghan (Montreal) and Wilma Ditchfield's children Stephanie and Eric Lepage (Toronto), Surviving great-grandchildren are Taylor and Liam Morriseau and Ciaran Marshall. Vern was predeceased by his parents James and Eva Ditchfield, brothers Reginald, Edward and Kenneth and sisters Gladys Gordon, Evelyn Cook and Norma Zeigler. He is survived by his brothers Ralph and Donald and sisters Susan Johnson, Barbara Wilson, Betty White and Kathleen McTavish. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 17, 2005, 11 am at St. Paul's United Church, Thunder Bay. The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to the staff at Roseview Manor for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the Thunder Bay Humane Society.
