Durica, George Andrew

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of George Durica on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 73 years. George was born on September 6, 1936 in Thunder Bay, ON. George loved sports and was a great basketball player, football player, golfer and curler. He was inducted into the Northwest Ontario Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Fort William Redskins Football Team. He was also a member of the Fort William Curling Club, Fort William Country Club and Chapples Golf Course. George and his wife Annette were the owners of three businesses including Annette's House of Flair, he was also a member of the Fort William Chamber of Commerce and was also an accountant and real estate agent with Mapledorm and Associates. He moved to Winnipeg in 1997 and became a member of the Niakwa Country Club. He also started a business with Annette, Club 2000 for Hair. George had many friends and was loved by all who knew him. George is survived by his wife Annette (Buchowsky), son John and sister Ann (Drebit), many nephews and nieces, sisters and brothers-in-law and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Anita and George Sr. In keeping with George's wishes cremation has taken place and funeral service celebrating his life will be held a the Da Vinci Centre in Thunder Bay on Wednesday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m. followed by an interment on Thursday, February 25 in the Mountview Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations in George's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.
