Esquega, Joseph Etienne

Mr. Joseph Etienne Esquega, age 82 years, resident of Dawson Court, passed peacefully with his family by his side on August 30, 2006. Joseph was a long time resident of Thunder Bay, is a member of the Rocky Bay First Nation, and was born on May 14, 1924 in Sand Point, Ontario. Joseph was a nice gentleman who had an outgoing, friendly, and spiritual personality. Among other activities, and past times, Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, playing guitar and singing, dancing, listening to music, and working on his cars. In addition to beachcombing and commercial fishing the waters of Lake Nipigon, Joseph was also employed with the City of Thunder Bay, the Ortona Legion, the Terrace Bay High School, and the Detox Centre throughout his working career. Joseph is survived by his daughters Linda Lanktree (Ken) and Charlene Esquega, his step-daughter Olive Dumas (Al Roech), and his grandson Etienne Esquega (who he raised with his wife since infancy). He is also survived by his sister Doreen LeClair (Coco), brother-in-laws Mike King and Edmund King (Shirley), as well as numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Agnes (nee King), his parents Louis Esquega and Theresa Esquega (nee Wawia); his sons Samuel, William, and Barry; his brothers Victor, Hyacenth, and Stephen; sisters Betsy Harper, Ivine Clark, Jeanette King, Laura Esquega, Catherine, and Florence; and numerous other beloved relatives including his in-laws. Funeral services for the late Mr. Joseph Esquega will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2006 with family and friends gathering at St. Anne's Church, 126 Mission Rd. for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM celebrated by Fr. Larry Kroker S.J. Interment of Ashes to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening after 6:00 PM with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma. If friends so desire donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
