It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Vincenzo “Jimmy” Fimognari on November 13, 2012. He slipped away from us peacefully in his sleep at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Vincenzo was born October 22, 1932 in Siderno Marina, Italy. After serving in the Italian Navy he married Pasqualina and then immigrated to Canada in 1956 to find a better life for him and his young bride. She then followed him in 1957 and soon after they started their family. He had numerous jobs before his long career at McKellar General Hospital until his retirement after 32 years. Prior to his illness he enjoyed his many long walks, gardening and his well groomed yard. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 56 years Pasqualina and children Dominic (Angela) and grandson James Fimognari; Maria (Domenico) and granddaughters Vanessa and Denise Commisso; Frank and granddaughters Melissa and Deanna Fimognari; Rosa (John) Brunetti; and Sandra (David) and grandchildren Ryan and Lindsey Atherton; sisters-in-law Teresa (Alfonso) Castelli and Angelina (Nino) Romano; and brother-in-law Pino (Lidia) Commisso. Also surviving are nephew Dominic (Angie) Fimognari; nieces Maria (Bruno) Valente, Rosa (Antonio) Belcastro, Lucy (Pino) Deleo and Maria (Antonio) Favero; aunt Teresa Deleo; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins in Canada and Italy. Vincenzo was predeceased by his parents Domenico and Maria; sisters Teresa and Rosa; brothers Cosimo and Domenico; sisters-in-law Angelina Fimognari and Rosa Guardari; brother-in-law’s Vincenzo Guardari and Domenico Belcastro; father and mother-in-law Francesco and Maria Commisso; uncle Vincenzo Deleo and many others in Italy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Dominic’s Church, celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi c.s. Entombment will take place in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with Vigil prayers at 3:00 p.m. in St. Dominic’s Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson’s Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Vincenzo Fimognari in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2013.
