Franchi, Harry

Mr. Harry Franchi, resident of Pinewood Court, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 11, 2001 in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Harry was born in Fort William in McKellar Hospital on June 23, 1927. He grew up on Victoria Avenue where his home was better known as Franchi's Store. Harry was very active in sports, which included playing football and basketball at Fort William Collegiate Institute, then later coaching teams at St. Patrick's High School. . Harry's great swimming skills lead him to be an excellent lifeguard at Dease Pool for a number of years. He could also be seen jogging any day of the week. Harry married Teresa Belanger on August 29, 1953 at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Together they had three children, Fred, Jeff and Kory whom they worked very hard for to provide a happy, healthy childhood. Harry's accounting and bookkeeping abilities attributed to his various jobs. He retired in 1995. Harry was a longtime member of the YMCA where he spent many days playing handball with numerous friends. Harry always attended his children's sporting activities always offering encouragement. Harry is survived by his wife Teresa, children, Fred Franchi, Jeff Franchi and Kory Morabito, grandchildren Lauren Franchi, Brenna Franchi, Michele Morabito and Paul Morabito, brother Leo Franchi. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his father Fred Franchi, mother Rose (nee Fedell) and sister Adeline Murphy. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Monday May 14, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. David Gillen officiating. Services will be complete in the chapel with interment to follow later privately for the family.
