FRANCHIMr. John Franchi age 76 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died in TBRH McKellar Site on Friday November 8, 2002. Born and raised in Fort William John spent his entire life here. He worked for Imperial Oil for a short time, but for most of his working life was a carman for the CPR, retiring in 1990. John always enjoyed walking, no matter where he was going. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and other sports and was always a hockey fan. John also played in the Slovak Legion Band. He was a member of the Da Vinci and the Simpson Street Prosvita. A kind and generous man, John always cared about everyone. He is survived by his sisters Shirley, Marie Krasniuk (Paul), brothers Louis, Norm (Sylvia), brother-in-law Ivar Swanson, aunt Rose Adduono. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Netta, sister Rita Swanson, sister-in-law Marie Franchi and nephew Ron Krasniuk. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 12, 2002 when friends and family will gather for Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Casimir's Church celebrated by Rev. George Zebrowski ofm. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Vigil services will be offered on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
