Franchi, Shirley Ann

FRANCHI: Miss Shirley Ann Franchi, age 72 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, on Saturday December 29, 2007. A lifetime resident of the city, Shirley was the daughter of Joseph and Netta Franchi. She worked at several jobs spending the last of her working years at Bowater in the Accounting Department retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Great Lakes Athletic Club. Shirley was a longtime member of St. Peter's Church and Catholic Womens League, the Royal Canadian Legion Slovak Branch #129, and the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering and spent many hours at the Shelter House and working for the TBRH Foundation. Along with her many friends, she spent countless hours volunteering at various other organizations. She is survived by her brother Louis, Thunder Bay, brother-in-law Paul Krasniuk, Hope B.C. , sister-in-law Sylvia Franchi, North Bay, brother-in-law Ivar Swanson, Thunder Bay. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive, as well very special friend Theresa Furick and many other friends. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters and brothers Rita Swanson, John Franchi, Marie Krasniuk, Norman Franchi, sister-in-law Marie Franchi. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 2, 2008 when friends and family will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Church celebrated by Rev. Wayne Bolton s.j. A private interment for family will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire memorials to the Lung Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Northern Cancer research Foundation would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Shirley Franchi in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 29, 2008.
