Gold, John
Mr. John Gary Gold passed away unexpectedly August 20, 2004, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side. John was born August 6, 1944, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He received his schooling in Fort William followed by three years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy. Returning home, he started his career as a Stationary Engineer. He worked at Great Lakes/Bowater for thirty-two years and retired on December 31, 1999. Throughout his life, he made many friends and had close family ties. John Gary was an active member of the community. In his early years, he was involved with the Fort William Figure Skating Club, especially the Ice Shows, and as a member of the Organization Committee of National and International Competitions such as Skate Canada. He was a founding member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Thunder Bay where he served on the Board and as President. He volunteered with the Kidney Foundation, St. Joseph's Heritage, and the United Way. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 865. During his life, he was an avid skier and golfer and travelled extensively. John is survived by his wife, Margaret (Maggie) Jameus, mother, Isabella Shaw Gold, sister, Brenda Gilham (Bud and children, Thomas, James, and J.J. ), brother, Greg (Zora Prystanski and children, Sean and Alison Gold), mother-in-law, Lorna Jameus, and in-laws, David Benedict (Pat and children, Dawn and Darla), Gary Benedict (Bev and children, Misty, Kara, and Stacey), Cathy Lamb (Robert and children, Alissa and Joey (deceased), Lorne Jameus (Dorthy and children, Colin, Ashlee and Ryan), (Marlene and children, Danny, Loreene, and Marcy), and Kim Diotte/Jameus (and son James), nephews, Danny Stieh (Diane and children, Nicholas and Matthew), Jason Jameus (Vivian and daughter, Creeanne). John will also be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his father, Harry Gold, his sister-in-law, Judy Stieh (David), brother-in-law, Michael Jameus, and good friend, Ross Montgomery. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, August 25th, at 1:00 pm. , at First Church United (corner of Brock and Ford), officiated by Reverends Carl Triskle and Beth McLean. Services will be completed at the church. This will be followed by a 'Celebration of John's Life' at the Airlane Travelodge Hotel. Private internment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of John Gold in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
