Ted Hammond, age 89 years, resident of Bethammi Nursing Home, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Saturday, August 20, 2005 with his family by his side.Ted was born in England on April 17, 1916. He served with the Royal Air Force from 1934 - 1945 in Egypt, Iraq and South Africa. Ted married Lilian on February 14, 1942 in England, where their children, Edward and Geraldine were born. In 1948, Ted emigrated to Canada and was employed by General Motors in Toronto where their son Don was born. In 1968, Ted and his family relocated to Port Arthur, where he founded Twin Cities Appraisals, the first accident appraisal company in Northwestern Ontario. He enjoyed his work and dealing with truck and body shops, and was well liked and respected by all. Ted had numerous interests, but he especially enjoyed fishing, woodworking and puttering in his garden.Ted will be sadly missed by Lilian, his loving wife of sixty three years; children: Edward (Arlene) and Don (Anne) Thunder Bay, and Geraldine (Chris), Caledon; grandchildren: Lisa, Susan, Jason; and four great-grandchildren.Funeral Services the late Ted Hammond will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24th, in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Ted's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or to the charity of your choice.
