Hand, Dorothy

Mrs. Dorothy Irene Hand (nee Davis), age 75 years, resident of Lakeshore Drive, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 9th, 2004 in St. Joseph's Hospital with her family by her side. Dorothy was born in Emo, Ontario on August 10th, 1928 and she was employed as a secretary throughout her life. She had worked for the Holiday Inn as a long time employee and had also worked in Torrance, California for the Ramada Inn. During her career, Dorothy enjoyed meeting people she came in contact with and loved to learn about their lives. Her good attitude at work helped her to excel and she had received many compliments at work. Dorothy enjoyed her retirement years and spent much of her time playing card games, reading a good book and going to the Casino. Her home and family were her main interests.She is survived by her husband Richard; children: Debbie (Robert) Dowswell, Wayne (Susan) Buckle of Regina, Saskatewan, Clifford (Winnie) Hand of Labrador, and Susan Gacki of Vancouver, B.C. and Janet Krivak of Vancouver B.C. ; grandchildren: Jody and Rob Dowswell, Tracy and Travis Buckle, Clinton Hand and Sebastion Gacki; six great-grandchildren; two aunts: Hilda McLeod of Thunder Bay and Francis Wilson of Rainy River; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents William and Catherine Davis; brother Edward Davis and sisters: Beatrice Cummings and Evelyn Yoder.As per Dorothy's wishes, Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 14th, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street with the Venerable Andrew Hoskins of St. Thomas Anglican Church and Rev. Henk Willems of St. George the Martyr Anglican Church officiating. Interment of the Ashes will be at a later date in Rainy River. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or St. Joseph's Hospice or the charity of choice.
